Physiotherapy questions
Do I need a GP referral to see a physio?
No. You can book directly with us. If you are using health insurance, some insurers ask for a GP referral before they authorise treatment, so check with your insurer first.
What happens at my first physio appointment?
Your first appointment is 45 minutes. We take a full history of the problem and what you want to get back to, then test movement, strength and whatever else the injury calls for. You get an explanation of what we have found, what is driving it, and what the plan looks like, and we usually start treatment and give you your first exercises in the same session.
What should I wear?
Wear clothing that lets us see and move the area we are treating: shorts for a leg injury, and something that gives access to your back for back pain. Bring any scan or surgery reports you have.
What's the difference between a physio and a sports physio?
Both are chartered physiotherapists with the same core training. A sports physiotherapist focuses on getting people back to physical performance rather than only out of pain, which means more emphasis on strength, loading and objective testing before you return to your sport. In practice that is the difference you feel here: the rehab happens in a gym and progress is measured on force plates.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the injury and on how you respond, so we give you an honest estimate after the assessment rather than selling a block of sessions up front. Some problems settle in a handful of appointments. Rehabilitation after surgery, such as an ACL reconstruction, runs over many months. Much of the work happens in your own training between appointments.
Can I use my health insurance?
Yes. We are registered with Bupa, AXA, WPA, Cigna and Vitality. Get an authorisation code from your insurer, then book with us and we bill your insurer directly.
What is the free call?
A short phone call, at no cost and with no commitment, to talk through what is going on. We use it to work out whether physiotherapy is the right first step for you, which appointment to book, and whether you should be seeing someone else instead. If you are not sure where to start, start here.
Do you treat people who aren't athletes?
Yes. Most of our patients are not competitive athletes. They are people who want to keep running, lifting, playing five-a-side or simply getting through the day without pain. The approach is the same whatever your starting point: work out what is driving the problem, then rebuild the strength and movement you need for the things you actually want to do.
Physio or sports massage: which do I need?
Book physiotherapy if you have an injury, pain that is not settling, or you need a diagnosis and a plan. Book sports massage if you are training well and want recovery work on tight, tired muscles. If you are not sure, use the free call and we will tell you which one fits, including when the honest answer is that you do not need either yet.
Is there parking and step-free access?
There is paid street parking nearby. The clinic is not step-free, so please call us before booking if stairs are a problem for you.
What's your cancellation policy?
Please give us at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or move an appointment, otherwise the full fee is charged.
Can I see a physio online?
Yes, for suitable problems. Josh and Ioannis offer online physio and rehab coaching by video call, with your programme in an app and weekly check-ins.
